Run rigorous A/B tests and personalize every visit on Shopify or any storefront โ no engineers required.
A strong Shopify SEO checklist covers technical foundations, on-page content, and conversion signals that search engines use to rank D2C stores in 2026. Indian brands like Bellavita and mCaffeine have shown that combining organic visibility with on-site conversion optimization compounds growth faster than paid channels alone. Work through these 30 points systematically and you will cover every layer of Shopify SEO from crawlability to checkout.
Google's ranking signals have shifted toward page experience, entity-based relevance, and conversion behavior. A page that loads fast, answers questions clearly, and converts visitors sends positive engagement signals back to Google, creating a flywheel effect. For Indian D2C brands, local intent signals (UPI, COD availability, pincode-level delivery information) have become increasingly important ranking factors.
Shopify's platform handles some SEO basics automatically: sitemaps, canonical tags on product variants, and HTTPS. But dozens of factors still require manual attention.
Core Web Vitals: LCP under 2.5 seconds. Test with Google PageSpeed Insights. Indian mobile users on 4G see roughly 500ms higher latency than desktop benchmarks. Target LCP under 2 seconds.
Submit XML sitemap to Google Search Console. Shopify auto-generates yourstore.com/sitemap.xml. Verify it is submitted and returning 200 status.
Fix crawl errors in Search Console. Check for 404s, redirect chains, and blocked resources monthly.
Implement proper redirect structure. Use 301 redirects for deleted products, not 302s. Redirect chains kill page authority.
Canonical tags on product variants. Shopify adds canonicals by default, but verify that size/color variant URLs are not being indexed separately with duplicate content.
Robots.txt audit. Check /robots.txt and ensure collection filters and search result pages are blocked.
Schema markup on product pages. Add Product, Review, and BreadcrumbList schema. Yotpo and Judge.me inject review schema automatically.
Mobile-first indexing compliance. Google indexes the mobile version. Test with Mobile-Friendly Test and avoid intrusive popups that trigger Google's interstitial penalty.
HTTPS across all URLs. Shopify provides HTTPS by default, but check that custom domains and subdomains redirect correctly.
Structured internal linking. Every collection page should link to sub-collections. Every product page should link to related products and the parent collection.
Primary keyword in H1 tag. Shopify uses the page title as H1. Keep it under 65 characters and front-load the primary keyword.
Meta descriptions under 155 characters. Write unique meta descriptions for every product and collection. Including price signals (โน999, starting from โน499) improves click-through rates.
Unique product descriptions, no manufacturer copy. Copy-paste manufacturer descriptions create duplicate content. Write 200+ word original descriptions for each product.
Image alt text on every product image. Include product name, key attribute, and brand in alt text: "Bellavita Rose Gold Perfume 100ml EDP for Women."
URL slugs: clean and keyword-rich. Shopify's default URLs are clean. Avoid auto-generated /products/untitled-product-1 slugs and rename before publishing.
Heading hierarchy (H1 > H2 > H3). One H1 per page. Use H2 for section headings and H3 for subsections. Never skip levels.
Keyword-rich collection page content. Collection pages are high-value landing pages. Add 150-300 words of descriptive content above or below the product grid.
Internal links from blog to product/collection pages. Each blog post should link to 2-3 relevant product or collection pages with descriptive anchor text.
FAQs with FAQ schema on product pages. Address "is COD available?", "what is the return policy?", and "does this ship to [city]?" These are questions customers actually search.
Long-tail keyword targeting in product titles. "Vitamin C Serum for Oily Skin 30ml" beats "Vitamin C Serum" by capturing specific intent and reducing competition.
Publish 2-4 blog posts per month. Consistent publishing signals freshness. Target informational keywords that potential customers search before buying.
Optimize existing content before creating new. Update old posts with new data, internal links, and better headings before publishing fresh content.
Target featured snippets with structured answers. Start answers with the question restated: "Kapiva Shilajit benefits include..." then list 4-5 points in a bulleted format.
Cluster content around pillar pages. Group related articles around a central pillar page and link every cluster article back to the pillar. See: Shopify CRO.
Update seasonal content before festive periods. Refresh Diwali, Holi, and sale season content 4-6 weeks before the event. Google needs time to re-crawl and re-rank.
A/B test title tags and meta descriptions. Title tags function as clickable ads. Test different emotional triggers: urgency, social proof, price anchoring.
Personalize landing pages by traffic source. Organic search visitors have different intent than paid traffic. CustomFit.ai lets you show different banners and CTAs to organic visitors without code. Brands using landing page personalization see 11% average CVR lifts.
Speed-optimize above-the-fold content. The first screen must load fast. Defer all JavaScript below the fold and lazy-load images below the visible area.
COD and UPI trust signals on product pages. Add "Cash on Delivery Available" and payment icons (UPI, Paytm, Razorpay) visibly on product pages. These reduce bounce rate among Indian shoppers who check payment options before committing.
Reduce bounce rate with exit-intent personalization. Personalized exit-intent offers (discount for first-time visitors, free shipping threshold) reduce bounce rate, which is a negative user experience signal for SEO.
